PSA, CGC, BGS & TAG Grading for Australians

What PSA, CGC, Beckett and TAG actually cost and take when you submit from Australia, once shipping, currency conversion and GST are added to the US list price.

Contents

PSA, CGC, Beckett (BGS), and TAG all quote a clean USD price and a set turnaround. None of those numbers are what an Australian collector actually pays or actually waits. Every one of these companies is based in the United States, which means every card you submit leaves Australia and comes back as an import. Here is what that really costs and takes, company by company.

PSA from Australia

PSA reopened its Standard tier at $59.99 USD on September 14, 2026, the first live entry-level pricing in months after its cheaper Value tiers were paused due to demand. Above Standard, Priority sits at $79.99, Express at $199, Super Express at $349, Premier at $599, and Premium 1 at $999, all in USD, all before shipping.

Once an Australian collector goes through a local submission service, that $59.99 USD Standard tier becomes roughly $110 to $130 AUD, with a 90 to 100 business day grading turnaround on top of whatever time shipping and intake add either side. Japanese and other non-US-produced cards route through PSA Hong Kong instead, which adds one to two more months. CardTracker's full PSA grading cost breakdown for Australia covers the current numbers in detail.

CGC from Australia

CGC Cards prices by fair market value and turnaround speed rather than a flat per-tier fee. Its published tiers run from Bulk at $17 USD per card (25-card minimum, 120 working days) and Economy at $20 USD (65 working days), up through Standard at $55 USD (10 working days), Express at $100 USD (5 working days), and WalkThrough at $300 USD (2 working days). Paid memberships (Associate, Premium, Elite) unlock 10 to 20% discounts on those fees.

The same Australian overhead applies: international shipping both ways, USD-to-AUD conversion, and potential GST on the return parcel, stacked on top of whichever working-day figure CGC quotes. A $17 Bulk submission is not a $17 all-in cost once it has made the round trip from Australia.

Beckett (BGS) from Australia

Beckett is the cheapest of the big three at entry level: Base is $14.95 USD without subgrades or $17.95 USD with them, at a 75+ business day turnaround. Standard moves to $34.95 USD (45 business days), Express to $79.95 USD (15 business days), and Priority to $124.95 USD (5 business days).

Beckett's appeal is the four-subgrade label (Centering, Corners, Edges, Surface) rather than a single number, which matters for high-end vintage cards where condition nuance drives value. But the low headline price hides the same international shipping, conversion, and import exposure every US-based grader carries for an Australian submitter.

TAG Grading: the AI-Powered Newcomer

TAG is the newest serious entrant, using computer vision and photometric stereo instead of a human grader, scored on a 1,000-point scale that converts to a familiar 1 to 10 equivalent. Its tiers span Base at $39.95 USD (60 business days) up to Premier at $299.95 USD (3 to 5 business days), though as of late 2026 TAG has paused its cheaper regular tiers and limited availability on others while it works through a submission backlog.

TAG is still a US company. Submitting from Australia carries exactly the same international shipping, currency conversion, and import considerations as PSA, CGC, or Beckett, on top of whatever the backlog adds to its own quoted turnaround.

The Pattern Every Australian Submitter Hits

Strip away the branding and all four companies create the same problem for an Australian collector:

None of that is a reason to avoid grading. It is a reason to know the real number before you commit a card to a five-month round trip.

Is There a Way to Avoid All of This?

Yes: grade with a company that is actually based in Australia. Ark Grading, based in Melbourne, removes the international leg entirely, no overseas shipping, no currency conversion, no import exposure, with published pricing starting at $23 AUD and a 65-day Economy turnaround that is close to the real, total wait rather than one portion of a much longer trip. CardTracker's full guide to grading with Ark in Australia covers the pricing tiers, how submission works, and a 5% discount code for CardTracker readers. Frequently asked questions

Which is cheapest for an Australian collector: PSA, CGC, Beckett, or TAG?
By US list price, Beckett's Base tier ($14.95 USD) and CGC's Bulk tier ($17 USD) are the cheapest. Once international shipping, currency conversion, and potential import costs are added for an Australian submission, the gap narrows considerably, and all four end up well above their headline price.

How long does PSA, CGC, Beckett, or TAG grading actually take from Australia?
Add international shipping time on both ends, typically four to eight weeks combined, to whatever business or working-day turnaround each company publishes. Realistic totals run from roughly three months (TAG's fastest paid tiers, when open) to six or more months (PSA Standard, CGC Bulk, Beckett Base).

Do I have to pay GST when my card comes back from US grading?
Potentially. A card sent overseas for grading returns as an import, and depending on its declared value, GST and possibly duty can apply to that return shipment, separate from the grading fee and shipping cost you have already paid.

Is there an Australian alternative to PSA, CGC, Beckett, and TAG?
Yes. Ark Grading is based in Melbourne and grades cards entirely within Australia, avoiding the international shipping, currency conversion, and import exposure that comes with every US-based grader. See CardTracker's guide to grading with Ark for pricing, turnaround, and a reader discount code.
