Best Ways to Grade Your TCG Cards in Australia
PSA, CGC and Beckett all mean overseas shipping, months of waiting, and GST on the way back. Here's every realistic option for grading TCG cards in Australia.
Contents
You have a card worth grading, Pokemon, One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic, a sports card, it does not matter which TCG. In Australia, the decision comes down to one question: do you send it overseas, or is there a way to grade it without leaving the country? Both are real options in 2026. Here is how each one actually plays out.
Option 1: The Big US Graders (PSA, CGC, Beckett, TAG)
PSA, CGC, and Beckett (BGS) are the three names that dominate card grading, with a newer AI-assisted entrant, TAG, picking up share since 2025. All four are United States companies with no Australian grading facility. Submitting to any of them from Australia means your card physically leaves the country and comes back as an import.
Each has a very different pricing and turnaround structure:
- PSA reopened its Standard tier at $59.99 USD in September 2026, with a 90 to 100 business day grading turnaround before you even count shipping. See the full PSA grading cost in Australia breakdown for current numbers.
- CGC starts around $17 to $20 USD for its Bulk and Economy tiers, running 65 to 120 working days.
- Beckett (BGS) starts at $14.95 USD for its Base tier, with a published turnaround of 75+ business days.
- TAG starts at $39.95 USD for Base, a 60 business day turnaround, using a computer-vision grading process on a 1,000-point scale rather than a human grader.

What Grading Overseas Actually Costs an Australian Collector
The USD list price is never the real price once you are submitting from Australia. Three things get added on top of every one of those headline figures:
- International shipping, both ways. Weeks of transit before the grading clock starts, and weeks again on the return trip.
- Currency conversion and a local handling fee. Most Australian collectors use a local submission service rather than shipping direct, and that service prices in AUD. PSA's $59.99 USD Standard tier, for example, lands at roughly $110 to $130 AUD once a local service's postage, insurance, and handling are folded in.
- Possible GST and duty on the return parcel. The card leaves the country as your property and comes back as an import. Depending on declared value, that return leg can attract GST, on top of everything else you have already paid for.
Add it up and a Standard PSA submission realistically takes five to six months door to door, not the 90 to 100 business days PSA itself quotes for the grading step alone. CGC and Beckett follow the same pattern: a lower US list price, the same international shipping and handling stacked on top.

Pulled something worth grading? Ark Grading does it in Melbourne, no overseas shipping, no 5-month wait. CardTracker readers get 5% off with code CARDTRACKER.
Grade with Ark →Option 2: Grading Locally in Australia
There is a second path that skips all three of those costs: grading with a company that is actually based in Australia. Ark Grading, operated out of Melbourne, is the main one. Because a card submitted to Ark never leaves the country, there is no international shipping leg, no currency conversion, and no import exposure on the way back. Ark's own published pricing starts at $23 AUD for its Economy tier (65 day turnaround) and runs up to $49.95 AUD for Express (10 days), with every tier including four subgrades and a sonic-sealed, security-labelled case.
That $23 to $49.95 AUD range is close to the full, real-world cost and wait, not just one portion of a much longer international trip. CardTracker's full guide to grading with Ark in Australia covers the pricing tiers, the grading scale, how submission works, and a 5% discount code for CardTracker readers.
Which Should You Choose?
The honest answer depends on the card:
- A genuinely high-value chase card you plan to sell, where the PSA resale premium alone could cover the extra cost and wait, is still a reasonable case for sending to PSA. Brand recognition on resale is real, and PSA still holds the strongest grip on it.
- Everything else, modern chase pulls, vintage holos you are not flipping at the top of the market, bulk lots, and anything where a five-month wait and a $110+ AUD floor is not worth it, is better served by a local option. Ark's combination of AUD pricing, a domestic turnaround, and no import risk makes the maths work for far more cards than the big US graders can.
Before you submit anywhere, check the current market price for both the raw and graded version of your card. A grading fee, wherever you send it, only makes sense when the gap between raw and graded value clears the total cost.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest way to grade TCG cards in Australia?
At face value, Beckett's $14.95 USD Base tier and CGC's $17 USD Bulk tier look cheapest, but both require international shipping, currency conversion, and a multi-month wait once submitted from Australia. Ark Grading's $23 AUD Economy tier, graded entirely within Australia, is typically the cheapest all-in option once shipping and import costs are accounted for.
Is it worth grading cards locally instead of sending them to the US?
For most cards, yes. A local Australian grader avoids international shipping both ways, currency conversion, and any GST exposure on the return parcel, and the quoted turnaround is close to the real total wait rather than one leg of a longer trip. The main exception is a very high-value card where PSA's resale brand premium outweighs the extra cost and time.
How long does grading realistically take from Australia?
For the big US graders, add international shipping time on both ends to whatever turnaround the company quotes, which usually means three to six months total. For a local service like Ark Grading, the quoted turnaround (10 to 65 days depending on tier) is close to the real wait, since there is no overseas leg.
Do I pay GST on card grading from Australia?
Not on a card you already own if you bought it locally. But sending a card overseas to a US grading company and having it shipped back is an import, and GST, plus possibly duty, can apply to that return shipment depending on its declared value. Grading with an Australian-based company avoids this entirely.
