Pokemon 30th Anniversary Wave 2: The Australia Booster Bundle & Mini Tin Release Day Guide

Here's some welcome relief from this week's terrible Kmart pre-order drop, where collectors sadly weren't able to buy anything. The October 2nd 30th Wave 2 is just next week!

Wave 2 of the 30th Anniversary set drops next Friday, October 2, bringing the Booster Bundle and the 10-artwork Mini Tin run. Here's what's actually in it, where to look, and what to expect.

One thing worth flagging: some retailers hold back stock to release later in the day rather than first thing at open, so don't assume a quiet morning means a store's not getting anything.

📦 What's Dropping October 2 (Wave 2)

That's it for Wave 2 - just two product types, but the Mini Tin comes in 10 different artworks, so if you're chasing the full set of tins rather than just "a tin," that's the real target here, not the release itself. Each tin also includes a sticker sheet and an art card matching its design - and collecting all 10 art cards reportedly lets you combine them into two larger mosaic images, a "day" theme and a "night" theme.

For context: Wave 1's ETBs, ex Boxes, Poster Collections, Knock Out Collections and Binder Collection already landed September 16. The Espeon ex/Umbreon ex Battle Decks are Wave 3 on October 30, the Ultra Premium Collections + Ditto Premium Collection + Figure Collection land Wave 4 on November 6, and Wave 5 on December 4 brings the Sylveon ex Tin/Greninja ex Tin - separate products from Wave 1's Sylveon ex Box/Greninja ex Box, despite the similar names.

🔄 What's Different About Wave 2

Wave 1 had many more products on the go at once - ETBs, ex Boxes, Poster Collections, Tech Stickers, Knock Out Collections and the Binder Collection, all with their own separate allocations. Wave 2 is just two: the Booster Bundle and the Mini Tins. Booster Bundles in particular are usually printed and shipped in higher quantities than the more "premium" specialty items, since they're one of the more basic products in any Pokemon TCG lineup.

That doesn't mean they won't be popular, though. Plenty of collectors want Booster Bundles specifically - to fill out their sets, chase pulls at a cheaper per-pack rate, or just round out a complete run of Wave 2 product - and unfortunately that also means they'll be targeted for reselling, same as everything else in this release. Don't assume they'll be sitting on shelves.

The Mini Tins add their own extra wrinkle: with 10 different artworks sharing one overall allocation, a store can have plenty of tins in total while still being out of the two or three specific designs everyone's actually after.

🏬 Retailer-by-Retailer

Wave 2 isn't starting cold on the pre-order front - Booster Bundle pre-orders opened at various retailers alongside the other 30th Celebration waves a couple of months back, so some of you may already have one locked in. If you don't, here's where to look on the day itself:

• Kmart - in-store, no reservation system, same as Wave 1. Worth checking a 24hr/midnight-trading store if one's near you.
• Big W - in-store walk-in, historically inconsistent store-to-store.
• Target - same walk-in model. Target has generally been slower to bring stock online than other retailers this cycle, so if they've got anything for Wave 2 expect it to land mid-morning or early afternoon rather than right at open.
• Toymate - usually solid in-store stock and sensible limits, worth checking as with every wave.
• Toyworld - usually reliable, can vary store to store.
• EB Games / JB Hi-Fi - JB Hi-Fi won't be selling Wave 2 in-store on the day; EB Games might have some walk-in stock, but we don't know for sure yet.
• Myer / David Jones / Kidstuff - sporadic, in-store only, worth a look if you're already out.

Not confirmed, but worth watching: there's talk that some 7-Eleven stores (and possibly Woolworths) may carry Mini Tins this wave, similar to how they stocked the Knock Out Collection back in Wave 1. We haven't verified this independently, so don't build your morning around it, but worth a look if you've got one nearby.

Bottom line: these are still popular products in a set that's sold out or crashed a site every time it's gone on sale so far, so don't treat Wave 2 as a guaranteed walk-up - get there reasonably early if a specific product or Mini Tin artwork matters to you.

Unlike the EB Games Wave 1 Pikachu promo, this one isn't EB-exclusive - it's confirmed across five retailers, so you've got more shots at it if your local EB Games runs out.

🎯 Getting All 10 Mini Tin Artworks

If your goal is the full set of 10 rather than just cracking a couple of packs, a few things worth knowing:

• Mini Tins are often kept behind the service desk or at the checkout registers rather than out on the shelf with everything else. If you can't spot them browsing the aisle, ask staff directly before assuming a store isn't carrying them.
• Per-person purchase limits are likely to be well under 10. Don't expect to walk out with a full set of artworks in one transaction, even somewhere with decent stock - multiple trips, or trading with other collectors for the designs you're missing, is the more realistic path to completing the run.

📋 Purchase Limits & Etiquette

Given the lower unit price and higher stock volume, expect purchase limits to be looser than Wave 1's ETB restrictions - but individual stores may still cap Mini Tins per person specifically to stop one buyer clearing out a single artwork. If a store's got a limit on tins, ask before you grab a handful of the same design.

The Wave 1 etiquette points still apply here: respect whatever limit you're given, and don't send a second family member through to double up on a capped item.

🃏 Don't Sleep on Your Local Card Store

Independent AU card/hobby stores carry their own separate allocation and are usually a calmer way to pick up Wave 2 product, particularly if you're after specific Mini Tin artworks rather than whatever the big-box shelf has.

👀 Looking Ahead: Wave 3 and Wave 4

If you're pacing your spend across the whole 30th Celebration lineup: the Espeon ex/Umbreon ex Battle Decks are next on October 30 (Wave 3), followed by the big one - the Ultra Premium Collections, Ditto Premium Collection and Figure Collection - on November 6 (Wave 4). Given the price points and how tightly the UPC pre-orders have already been running, expect that one to be a much bigger deal than this wave.
