Dragon Ball Super Card Game vs Fusion World for Australian Collectors

If you're weighing the Dragon Ball Super Card Game against Fusion World, this guide covers where the first came from, exactly how a game of it runs, and what Fusion World product has reached Australian store listings. It won't tell you which one to buy; it will make sure you know what each game actually is before you make that call.

Where the game comes from

Dragon Ball has been through card games before. The original Dragon Ball Collectible Card Game carried exclusive artwork from the Dragon Ball anime, spanning Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT. Its first United States set, Warriors Return, arrived on 18 July 2008 with 113 cards. Cards in that game came in four types, warrior, technique, event and wish, across five styles: Super, Earth, Alien, Unique (mostly Namekian) and Villain. That game ended in 2009, and Bandai launched an all-new card game in 2017. It draws its cards from across the series: Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Super and Super Dragon Ball Heroes.

How the Dragon Ball Super Card Game plays

The Dragon Ball Super Card Game MASTERS series is a two-player competitive trading card game. Each player builds a deck of 1 Leader Card and 50 to 60 Battle, Extra and Unison Cards. There are 8 card types in the game, and the Leader is the core of your deck, placed on the field at the beginning. The Zenkai series adds Z-Leader, Z-Battle, Z-Extra and Z-Unison cards, which count as both their normal type and a Z-Card and can build into a separate Z-Deck. A Unison Card fights alongside your Leader in the Unison Area, and only 1 can be there at a time.

A game starts with your Leader face-up in Active Mode and your deck face-down. The first player is decided at random, you draw 6 cards, and you get 1 chance to re-draw. Then 8 cards from the top of your deck go face-down into your Life Area, and you can't check those cards during the game. Winning is blunt: deal enough damage to the opponent's Leader to reduce its life to zero.
