What Is Dragon Ball Fusion World?

The Dragon Ball Super Card Game has been in development since 2017. In February 2023, Bandai released Fusion World as a more intuitive version that inherits the same basic rules. The game is available worldwide in both English and Japanese.

Fusion World shares game mechanics with the One Piece TCG and its predecessor, the Dragon Ball Super Card Game Masters format. If you have played either, the energy system, leader-based combat, and awakening mechanic will feel familiar. If you have not touched a Bandai TCG before, the game is designed to be learned in an afternoon. The official site recommends the digital version as the way to learn the rules before playing physically.

How the Game Works

A match starts with each player's leader at 8 health. The goal is to reduce the opposing leader to 0. Each player draws 6 cards and can mulligan once at the start of the match.

Card types. Decks use two card types. Battle cards are characters you send into combat. Extra cards are spells and support effects.

Energy. You place one card per turn into your energy area to pay for other cards. Any card can become energy. There is no limit to how many cards you can play in a turn as long as you can pay their costs.

Turn structure. Each turn has three phases. The Charge Phase lets you place one energy card. The Main Phase is where you play cards, attack, and use abilities in any order you choose. The Offense Phase is when attacks are declared and resolved, with the defending player getting a chance to boost their card during the Defense step.

Combat and combos. To damage a leader or KO a character, your attacking card needs equal or greater power than the target. You can boost your card's power during battle using the combo value of other cards in your hand, typically 5,000 or 10,000 power. The defending player can do the same. Combo bonuses disappear after the battle resolves, so committing cards to boost is a resource decision that shapes each match.

Awakening. When a leader reaches 4 health, it awakens. The card flips to reveal a stronger form with higher base power and a new ability. Awakening is not a sign you are losing. Many decks treat it as a win condition, building around the unlocked power and using cards that damage their own leader to reach the awakened state faster.

Deck construction. A deck contains 1 Leader card and 50 to 60 Battle and Extra cards, totaling 51 to 61 cards. You can include up to 4 copies of any card, and the recommended minimum is 51 cards for consistency.

The Digital Version: Learn for Free

The Fusion World Digital Version is free to play on PC and Mac. It uses the same rules and card pool as the physical game, and cards released in physical sets are continuously added to the digital version.

The digital client supports Japanese and English. Minimum requirements on Windows are an Intel Core i5-1145G7, Intel Iris Xe Graphics, 8GB RAM, and 8GB storage, running Windows 10 or 11. On Mac, you need an Apple M1 chip or better with macOS 12.4 Monterey or later.

The game is free to play with optional in-app purchases that speed up progress. You must be 18 or older to download or play.

The practical value of the digital version for a new player is straightforward. You can learn every rule, test every starter deck leader, and figure out which playstyle suits you before spending a dollar on physical cards. That is a luxury most TCGs do not offer.

What to Buy First

A Fusion World starter deck includes a pre-constructed deck, play sheet, rules manual, and energy markers. It is everything you need to sit down and play.

The recommended first purchase is two copies of the same starter deck. Starter decks include two copies of key cards. Buying two gives you a full playset of four copies of every card, which is the maximum allowed per deck. This gives you a consistent, functional deck immediately without needing to open booster packs.

Upcoming starter decks FS13 (The Saiyan Raised on Earth) and FS14 (The Prince of Saiyan) have an MSRP of $15.99 USD each. Starter Deck EX sets like FS11 (The Phase of Evolution) and FS12 (The Beat of Ki) are priced at $23.99 USD each and include more complex cards aimed at players who already understand the basics.

Booster packs enhance existing decks with unique Leader cards and Alternative-Art cards. Standard booster packs in the FB series carry an MSRP of $4.49 to $4.99 USD per pack. Manga Boosters (SB series) and Story Boosters (ST series) are priced at $5.99 USD per pack.

The Full Product Lineup

The first booster set, Awakened Pulse (FB01), released in April 2024. As of August 2026, there are 10 main booster sets from FB01 through FB10, plus 2 Manga Booster sets (SB01, SB02) and 1 Story Booster set (ST01).

The two Manga Booster sets are SB01 (June 2025) and SB02 (November 2025). Story Booster 01 (ST01) releases August 21, 2026 at $5.99 USD per pack.

Looking ahead, FB11 Brightness of Hope releases October 16, 2026 at $4.99 USD, and FB12 Reach the God is scheduled for Winter 2026 at the same price.

Organized Play and What's Next

In-store events and tournaments are organized through the BANDAI TCG+ app. Players can search for events near them, apply to participate, and earn exclusive promotional cards. The Championship circuit offers a path to competitive play, with the Digital Championship 26-27 circuit running Rank Match Preliminaries and Qualifier Stage events as of July 2026.

The game maintains a Banned/Restricted Cards list, updated as of March 2026. Banned cards cannot be included in a deck at all. Restricted cards are limited to 1 copy. The list is updated when the game environment changes, so competitive players should check it regularly.

A Sealed Format is also available for events, where players open booster packs at the start and build decks using only those cards. This levels the playing field and is a good format for new players who have not yet built a competitive constructed deck.
