Pokemon 30th Anniversary Pikachu Cards: How the 30-Card Subset Works and Which Cards Sit on Top

Every booster pack of Pokemon's 30th anniversary set, 30th Celebration, comes with a guarantee the game has never made before: one of 30 uniquely illustrated Pikachu cards, each from a different artist, in every pack. Pikachu is the centerpiece of the entire set. This guide does not run through all 30 cards one by one; it covers how the subset works, the cards the published artwork rankings put on top, and what the chase looks like from Australia.

The set the 30 Pikachu cards sit in

30th Celebration is the special expansion marking 30 years of the Pokemon TCG, and PokeCottage lists its release as simultaneous worldwide on 16 September 2026. For where it sits in the wider schedule, our release calendar tracks confirmed Australian release dates for every upcoming Pokemon TCG set. The set sits in the Mega Evolution series.

It runs to 199 cards: 128 main-set cards with the 30 Pikachu among them, 33 secret rares, 30 Classic Collection reprints and 8 special foil Basic Energy. It also debuts a new rarity, the Futuristic Rare. Every card in the set is foil, the Basic Energy included. The complete card list, with every promo card mapped to the product that contains it, sits on our 30th anniversary set card list.

One note if you play the game rather than just collect it: 30th Celebration cards are legal for official Pokemon tournament play from 25 September 2026, though the Classic Collection subset is not.

How the 30 Pikachu cards work

The guarantee is the headline: every booster pack contains one of the 30, a first for the Pokemon TCG. A pack holds five foil cards, one of which is one of the 30 Pikachu, plus a foil Basic Energy on top. The 30 sit in the main set's 128 cards rather than the secret rare tier, and each one carries artwork from a different illustrator. The subset also keeps its own numbering alongside the main set numbering.

The standouts, and how their prices have moved

IGN ranked all 30 of the Pikachu cards by artwork, with affordability on TCGplayer market medians as the tiebreaker. Its number one is Atsuko Nishida's card, which sat at US$1.49 on TCGplayer; Nishida is Pikachu's original creator, brought on after Sugimori decided his early designs were too scary. The dearest on IGN's list was Shinji Kanda's 043/128 at US$5.15, while DOM's 036/128, Pikachu over a neon-soaked city street, sat at US$0.93.

Collider's pick of the ten best designs also puts Nishida's card first. Its list takes in Shinji Kanda's entry, one of the most ambitious images in the collection; Takeshi Nakamura's, whose only attack, Peer At, makes an opponent reveal their hand; Asako Ito's crocheted Pikachu, stitches left visible; and OOYAMA's, which finally lets the mascot sleep.

The number that decides what you pay in Australia is the local one. Our market prices calculate a genuine Australian market value per card and per sealed product from local sold and active listing data rather than converted US prices, with per-card pricing, recent movement and the cheapest live listings on each set page. And the market does move: some of the 30 have fallen more than 90% from their release-week prices.

Where to buy the Pikachu cards in Australia

Our stock overview shows what is actually in stock right now across every retailer we monitor, 56 of them, the major chains like Kmart and BIG W plus a long tail of specialist stores. Those figures come with a caveat the stock pages state themselves: a product counts as in stock when it was confirmed available at that retailer within the last 7 days. Availability at a big chain can change within minutes, so confirm on the retailer's own page before you rely on it.

For the individual cards, Australian TCG store PokeBox carries English 30th Celebration singles and adds new ones as it opens, sorts and processes more product, with free domestic shipping on orders over $250. That is the case for singles over packs: you pick the exact card your binder is missing instead of relying on pulls.

How CardTracker.au helps you chase the 30th anniversary Pikachu cards

We monitor Australian retailers and eBay Australia for trading card stock, restocks and price drops, and calculate a genuine Australian market price for singles and sealed product rather than converting a US figure. Our market prices exist for exactly this: a genuine Australian market value per card and per sealed product, built from local sold and active listing data rather than a converted US figure. Each set page carries per-card pricing, recent movement and the cheapest live listings. Our stock overview shows what is in stock right now across every retailer we monitor, and our release calendar carries confirmed Australian release dates for every upcoming Pokemon TCG set. On the two checks this guide set: the market prices are built from local sold and active listing data rather than converted US prices, and the stock figures count only products confirmed in stock within the last 7 days, and say so. The market prices are free to use.

Before you pay for one of the 30, check its Australian market price and the cheapest live listings on its set page.
