Pokemon Sets Going Out of Print in 2027: What to Buy Before Prices Rise
The mechanism is simple once you see it. Every mainline set ships a standard Elite Trainer Box at a $49.99 US recommended price.

Every Pokemon set prints for a while, then stops. If you have been searching Pokemon sets going out of print 2027, the short answer is this: Moonstone's print clock model puts the first Scarlet & Violet sets' final print windows in early 2027. That would make the restock waves appearing now the last inventory push for those sets. The Pokemon Company has been printing roughly ten billion cards a year, a level it has confirmed is maximum physical printing capacity rather than a demand ceiling, so when the presses move off a set, restocks genuinely end.
One boundary up front: this guide works from print status rather than tournament legality, so it does not list which sets rotate out of Standard in 2027, and it stays out of the 2027 release schedule.
How to tell a set is on its way out
The mechanism is simple once you see it. Every mainline set ships a standard Elite Trainer Box at a $49.99 US recommended price. While a set is being printed, big-box restocks keep that box purchasable near retail, because anyone charging more loses the sale to the next restock. When printing stops, that cap disappears and the price floats. So the ratio of a set's cheapest standard ETB to its recommended price works as a print-status sensor.
On Moonstone's calibration, the sensor reads true: all seventeen Sword & Shield sets, out of print since the era closed with Crown Zenith in January 2023, trade at 2.3Γ retail or higher, while Mega-era sets being freely restocked right now sit at 1.3 to 1.4Γ. Nothing out of print trades below 2.2Γ, and nothing still being restocked freely trades above 1.6Γ. Read those as two clusters rather than a clean boundary, because a couple of current-era sets trade well inside out-of-print territory while their presses are still running.
The sets the model flags before the stop
Context first: the Scarlet & Violet era itself has already ended, with Black Bolt & White Flare shipping as its final sets in July 2025 and the Mega Evolution era taking over that September. What remains is the wind-down, and on the model's read the Scarlet & Violet sets in their final print window carry the least scarcity premium of any sets that will stop printing within a year. The two it names are Twilight Masquerade at 2.12Γ, about $106 US for the ETB, and Temporal Forces at 2.28Γ, about $114 US.
The model's evidence for where those ratios settle is the Sword & Shield postmortem: a floor of 2.3Γ even for the least-loved set, a median above 3Γ, and multiples of that wherever chase equity lives. A laggard at 2.1Γ cannot stay a laggard after the presses stop, because the floor alone converges upward. Evolving Skies, already out of print, shows where a stopped press plus chase equity ends up: 10.46Γ, about $523 US for the box.
Those are US figures against a US recommended price. Australian sealed product runs on its own supply, shipping costs and local demand, so the number to act on here is the local one. We calculate a genuine Australian market price for singles and sealed product from local sold and active listing data rather than converting a US figure. The market prices pages carry it for 146 tracked sets, with per-card pricing, recent movement and the cheapest live listings for each one. If you would rather buy than watch, our eBay deals feed scans continuously for singles and sealed product listed below Australian market value. Whichever route you take, check the Australian number before paying any premium the US ratio implies.

The mirror image matters just as much. Phantasmal Flames at 3.07Γ, about $153 US, and Mega Evolution at 2.40Γ are trading like out-of-print sets while the presses run. On a dead era, a high ratio means scarcity, permanent and structural. On a current era, it means demand is beating supply, and that is temporary until proven otherwise. The company has both a stated maximum-capacity commitment and a documented history of reprinting exactly the products that run hot: the 2021 maximum capacity campaign, and the repeated Hidden Fates and 151 restock waves. Moonstone's conclusion is blunt: paying 3Γ retail for an actively printed set is a bet that maximum capacity stays beaten, and history prices that bet badly.
This is where we built dedicated Elite Trainer Box market tracking: historical charts and real-time inventory pings on restocks and price fluctuations, so you can buy a flagged box at the bottom of its range rather than at the spike. The same charts cut both ways, which is the point: they are how you tell a set climbing on real scarcity from one climbing on a supply gap a reprint will close. Before paying any premium on a current-era box, check where that set sits on the print clock.
Print stop versus rotation
Going out of print and rotating out are different events on different clocks, and searchers often mix them. Rotation is the competitive-side cull: when a rotation happens, cards from the oldest legal regulation mark leave Standard play at Play! Pokemon sanctioned events, and a rotation generally removes roughly one year's worth of releases. Legality runs on the regulation mark, the letter printed on the bottom left of the card, rather than on the set a card came from. In the 2026 rotation, cards with the G mark or older left Standard while H, I and J stayed legal, and the change landed in Pokemon TCG Live about two weeks before physical play. Rotation touches prices only indirectly, through demand: cards that leave Standard can fade in play value while picking up nostalgia interest. The print stop is the supply event, and it is the one that reprices sealed product, because once a set's print window closes the restock waves end and the price cap goes with them.
How CardTracker helps you buy before the print stop
We calculate a genuine Australian market price for singles and sealed product, built from local sold and active listing data rather than a converted US figure. The market prices pages cover every set we track with per-card pricing, recent movement and the cheapest live listings, so you can see what a Twilight Masquerade or Temporal Forces box actually sells for in Australia before you pay a premium. Our eBay deals feed scans continuously for singles and sealed product listed below Australian market value. And the dedicated ETB market tracking follows restocks and price fluctuations on the boxes themselves, with the historical charts and real-time pings that let you buy at the bottom.
