Every Mega Evolution Pitch Black Card Revealed So Far
All six Mega Evolution ex cards in Pitch Black mapped out, including the four confirmed names, chase card hierarchy, and Australian release dates for July 17, 2026.
Pitch Black promises six Mega Evolution Pokémon ex. Only four have been publicly named. That gap matters if you are planning which products to chase or how much sealed to hold back for singles.
This is a running breakdown of every confirmed mega evolution Pitch Black Pokemon TCG card, the chase hierarchy among the 37 secret rares, and what Australian collectors need to know before the July 17 release.
What Is Mega Evolution Pitch Black?
Pitch Black is the fifth expansion in the Mega Evolution series, carrying set code ME05. It is the English adaptation of the Japanese set Abyss Eye, which released on May 22, 2026.
The Pokémon Company International announced the set on April 30, 2026, confirming a worldwide retail date of July 17, 2026. Thematically, the expansion ties into the Mega Dimension DLC from Pokémon Legends: Z-A, introducing Mega Evolution Pokémon featured in that content.
The set's flavour leans dark. Mega Darkrai ex arrives spreading shadow and malice across a cityscape, while Mega Zeraora ex fights back with thunderous strikes of lightning, leading the way for Mega Chandelure ex, Mega Excadrill ex, and more to join the fray.
Every Mega Evolution ex Card Confirmed
The official announcement lists six Mega Evolution Pokémon ex in Pitch Black. Here are the four that have been publicly named:
Mega Darkrai ex is the centrepiece. The announcement describes it as a card that "emerges from the shadows with commanding presence". It appears across multiple rarities in the set, culminating in the Mega Hyper Rare at card #118.
Mega Zeraora ex plays the counter role, "striking back with electrifying power". Its Special Illustration Rare is already positioned as one of the set's top pulls alongside the Darkrai chase cards.
Mega Chandelure ex and Mega Excadrill ex round out the confirmed four, each bringing dynamic strategies and powerful battles to the set. Both appear in the main set and are expected to feature across multiple rarity tiers.
The remaining two Mega Evolution Pokémon ex have not been publicly identified. With the Japanese Abyss Eye set already released, those names are circulating among importers, but nothing from the official English announcement or confirmed card lists names them yet. We will update this article as they are revealed.
Chase Cards and Pull Rates Ranked
Pitch Black contains 118 cards: 81 in the main set plus 37 secret rares. Those 37 secret rares break down into three tiers that determine the chase hierarchy:
| Rarity Tier | Count | Notable Cards |
|---|---|---|
| Illustration Rare (IR) | 11 | Extended-art versions of main set Pokémon |
| Special Illustration Rare (SIR) | 6 | Full-art alternate illustrations of Pokémon and Supporters |
| Mega Hyper Rare | 1 | Mega Darkrai ex (#118) |
The most expensive card in the set is the Mega Darkrai ex Special Illustration Rare, illustrated by Akira Egawa. Below it, the Mega Zeraora ex SIR and Gwynn SIR fill out the top three chase pulls. The Mega Darkrai ex Mega Hyper Rare at card #118, the final slot in the set, sits in its own rarity class.
For collectors tracking the six SIRs specifically: that is six cards spread across 37 secret rare slots. Each booster pack's odds of containing any individual SIR are slim, which is why sealed product allocation matters for anyone chasing the Darkrai SIR or the Hyper Rare.
How to Build the Master Set
A complete Pitch Black master set runs to 200 cards: the 118 main set and secret rare cards plus 82 reverse holos. The reverse holos cover each Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Double Rare in the main set. Secret rares do not have reverse holo variants, so 118 stays as the ceiling for numbered cards.
That 200-card count is relevant for binder planning. If you are setting up a master set binder, a 9-pocket side-loading binder with 23 pages covers it with a couple of spare slots. Check our guide to the best Pokemon card binders for options that protect cards properly during the months it takes to fill a master set.
Australian Release Timeline
Three dates matter for Australian collectors:
July 4 to 12: Prerelease events. Prerelease tournaments run at participating independent retailers as part of the Play! Pokémon program. These are typically the first chance to open Pitch Black packs and play with the new cards. Contact your local game store for event registration.
July 16: TCG Live launch. The expansion goes live on Pokémon TCG Live for iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows one day before physical retail. If you want to test decklists before committing to singles, this is the window.
July 17: Physical retail. Full release at participating retailers worldwide. The Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box variant includes 11 booster packs and two exclusive full-art foil promo cards featuring Zarude (one with a Pokémon Center logo, one without). That is two more packs than the standard ETB and a pair of promos you cannot get elsewhere. Check our ETB deals page for pricing as stock becomes available.
Set up a price alert to track Pitch Black sealed product and singles as listings go live on eBay AU. Early pricing on sets based on Japanese equivalents tends to shift sharply in the first week of English release.
